Health & Wellbeing

Improve the quality of life through the development of ICT enabled services

Health and Wellbeing (HWB) is not merely a matter of preventing disease. Health and Wellbeing increasingly needs to be approached in a holistic way that fosters mental and physical fitness and balance. Having healthy and caring relationships, as well as good daily habits and behavioural patterns, are just two of the many principles in this holistic approach.

In order to cope with these challenges of demographic - e.g. aging population - and societal - e.g. consumer empowerment - changes, the HWB system needs to migrate to a user-centric system with more self-management including both regular service providers as well as (innovative) third party service providers who will support people to live an uncompromised, active, healthy, pleasant & affordable life and at the same time avoid social exclusion.

Health & Wellbeing Activities

Empowering people to find balance and assume responsibility for their health and wellbeing. The Thematic Action Line Health and Wellbeing (TAL HWB) focuses on the following spearhead activity areas:

  • Stress and relaxation: Supporting people in balancing stress and relaxation when dealing with the challenges of every-day life
  • Healthy consumption: Supporting people in promoting their health by improving what, when and how they eat and drink
  • Physical activity: Supporting people in integrating a sufficient level of physical activity in their routines
  • Sleeping well: Supporting people to improve their sleep
  • Social Interaction: Supporting people in their interaction with other individuals or health professionals to induce a healthier lifestyle

These areas include research and innovation aspects such as unobtrusive monitoring, data fusion, smart reasoning, coaching strategies, scaling and automation for compliance and adherence, privacy / ethical guidelines, legal & endorsement frameworks. Next to the spearhead activities (the TAL HWB verticals) there will also be activities supporting the HWB specific education, business development and spearhead support (the TAL HWB verticals).

Expected Results

Validated (with launching customers) demonstration of innovative products and services for HWB in the spearhead areas:

  • Healthy consumption: cooking could be as easy as on TV
  • Physical activity: your workout would be an enjoyable encounter
  • Sleeping well: sleep becomes an experience
  • Social Interaction: you would always feel close together
