Our Approach

Through its international Nodes and partners, EIT ICT Labs already holds a significant position in the European ICT innovation landscape, but the vision goes beyond - to turn our Co-locations into world class innovation hotspots.

We deploy EIT funding on existing activities to catalyse innovation and new business creation. Our innovation strategy will be implemented for the creation of an ecosystem capable of producing breakthrough innovations through a number of catalysts.

The catalysts are employed vertically to facilitate the growth of the Co-locations and their local ecosystems and horizontally to drive innovation in a set of well-defined thematic areas and build on our European core competences.  Our catalysts focus on integrating the three elements of the knowledge triangle - Education, Research and Business – and are employed across the Nodes.

EIT ICT Labs will operate in a complex ecosystem of independent actors, financing schemes and business models that creates value for the European innovation landscape.

EIT ICT Labs Business Model

The EIT ICT Labs' business model focuses on exploiting market disruptions by applying ICT to other business domains, identifying and opening new research areas for others to follow and adapting to the social changes arising from open innovation and various new employment and business models.

The EIT ICT Labs business model entails:

  • lean and agile governance reaching out on a European scale that ensures the free flow of ideas, innovations, business, venture capital and expertise across geographical, organizational and cultural borders.
  • create an innovation flow between different stakeholders in the innovation web by working more closely with students and researchers from different industries at a much earlier stage of ideation.
  • facilitate access to critical and relevant expertise, through the network of nodes, for each actor in the innovation chain.
