The Helsinki Node has its focus on Empowering People in the Ubiquitous Digital Society. Its Co-location Centre is situated on the Otaniemi campus with core partners Aalto University, Nokia and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland residing close. Co-location strategy is to develop Otaniemi area as a global ICT innovation hotspot, where innovation takes place at accelerated speed.
The Helsinki Node Co-location Centre is situated in the TUAS-building in Aalto University campus in Otaniemi. All of the core partners are situated in the near vicinity of the co-location centre. This area is the main hub ICT in Finland, particularly prominent in software systems, telecommunications, and Internet services.
The three core partners of the Helsinki Node are Aalto University, Nokia, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland – which are the leading Finnish organizations within ICT education, research and innovation.
Affiliated partners of the Helsinki node include the following universities and research institutes: University of Helsinki, University of Tampere, University of Oulu, Turku Center for Computer Science (TUCS), Tampere University of Technology, and Centre for Scientific Computing (CSC). The following actors of the Finnish ICT innovation system are also affiliated partners of the Helsinki Node: Hermia Ltd., TIVIT Oy, Business Oulu, Technopolis Ventures Ltd., and SITRA - the Finnish Innovation Fund.
The Helsinki Node is contributing to all EIT ICT Labs activities with the aim of turning Europe into a global leader in ICT Innovation. The Helsinki Node has the leading role in the thematic action line for Smart Spaces.
