The Technische Universität Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) is the leading research-oriented university in Germany’s Rhine-Main region with a strong focus on engineering and computer science. Its department of computer science ranks among the best in Germany.
In 2008, the Technische Universität Darmstadt, the Fraunhofer SIT and the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, have established the Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED), which is internationally recognized as one of the largest and most prestigious clusters for IT security within Europe.
In this cluster, trend-setting IT security solutions are being researched and developed by more than 90 scientists from the field of computer science and information technology as well as other areas such as natural sciences, business sciences, and humanities. At CASED, these disciplines come together to research fundamental research challenges and to develop applications directly benefitting businesses and society.
The global success story of the ICT sector can only continue if security is also ensured in the future world of IT and particularly in the “Future Internet”. With this goal in mind CASED confronts the resulting security challenges in three research areas: In the research area “Secure Data”, CASED develops solutions to ensure confidentiality, authenticity, non-repudiability, and to manage intellectual property rights for digital data.
In the research area “Secure Things”, CASED researches how embedded systems, which generally have very limited resources and different communication options, can be secured such that they can protect themselves to a large extent autonomously from attacks, adapt dynamically to changing requirements and co-operate securely with their environment.
In the research area “Secure Services”, CASED investigates ways to guarantee the security and reliability of on-demand, component-based services over their full life-cycle – from development to execution.
The CASED center is funded by the LOEWE program for scientific and economical excellence of the Hesse government.
