The University of Tampere embraces many fields of science in its extensive and multidisciplinary research profile. Established originally at Helsinki in 1925, and relocated at Tampere in 1960, the University has grown to become a significant national and international leader in selected areas of science. Leading fields of research include medical and health research, research on humans and
technology, research on society and administration, and cultural research. The University of Tampere is the biggest provider of higher education in Finland for social sciences and the accompanying administrative sciences.
TAUCHI (Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction) is a research center in the School of Information Sciences. TAUCHI carries out multidisciplinary research on human-technology interaction harmonizing the potential of technology with human abilities, needs, and limitations. TAUCHI's role in EIT ICT labs covers research in multimodal interaction and smart spaces, as well as extensive undergraduate and graduate education in the field of HCI.
