The internationally renowned Technische Universität Berlin is located in Germany’s capital city at the heart of Europe. The TU Berlin strives to promote the accumulation of knowledge and to facilitate technological progress by adhering to the fundamental principles of excellence and quality. Strong regional, national and international networking with partners in science and industry is an important aspect in all these endeavors.
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Berlin University of Technology is not only one of the most important of its kind in Germany but it also offers a huge variety of study options and research opportunities: Six institutes, five study options, 35 000 students (fraction of international students: 33 %) and 2 000 researchers. It offers training and research opportunities that encompass the entire spectrum of information technology and electrical engineering, with a special emphasis on media and communication technologies.
Example challenges that researchers try to address are "What is intelligence?", "How is it possible to identify and quantify what makes information relevant?", "How can we use hetero-integration technologies for communications and sensing", and "What are the tradeoffs between robustness and adaptivity". The research areas are perfectly aligned with the strategic research topics of the TU Berlin.
In electrical engineering and computer science the department ranks amongst the TOP 3 of German research universities with regards to research funds. Over the past years the third party research funds have increased continuously and now add up to more than 25 millions € per year. The department's research potential, with more than 40 professorships, is reinforced by highly successful collaborations with non-academic research partners.
